The cleanest sky in Italy
The cleanest sky in Italy
We live under the clearest and cleanest sky in Italy. This is not said by us but by the prestigious 'The new world atlas of artificial night sky brightness" and astrophysicist and science populariser Gianluca Masi, who founded the Virtual Telescope Project in 2006 and chose the municipality of Manciano, and in particular the Montauto area, to install his robotic telescope laboratory. A sky, and therefore air, of extraordinary quality that, propitiated by the still rural essence of the Montauto territory, becomes not only a perfect habitat for life and an extraordinary opportunity for scientific research, but also an open-air laboratory, and it should be said, of environmental education. Thanks to the starry sky of this radiant portion of the Grosseto Maremma, in fact, some thirty highly technological telescopes make the Manciano area the richest in astronomical stations in the country. A privileged observatory of the celestial vault finally immortalised through extraordinary photographs, witnesses to the beauty of the Universe and participants in the evolution of knowledge and, with it, of man himself, as happened last autumn, when the robotic telescopes of the Virtual Telescope Project discovered a probable nova in the Andromeda galaxy and a new blazar candidate, as well as several new variable stars. What all this has to do with our wines is quickly said. Since we believe that everything holds together, the very clean air, the vivid light and the wind that always blows in from the sea actively participate in our work, along with our land iridescent with sparkling slivers of pink quartz: a firmament that clay refracts and is found multiplied an infinite number of times, in the night sky, that are poured into wines very often defined by experts with adjectives that refer to this very light, of which they have all the brilliance, clarity, cleanliness and luminosity.
